Seve Ballesteros Golf Courses on the Costa Blanca

There are three Seve Ballesteros golf courses on the Costa Blanca. I can’t guarantee that we can help you to play like Seve Ballesteros, but if you come to play golf on the Costa Blanca, I can guarantee that you can play on three of the courses that he designed.

If you want to play all three courses then you will need a hire car because they are evenly spread along the coast, from Oliva Nova in the north, to Alicante Golf and then south to Peraleja.

Let’s take a look at each course in turn.

Oliva Nova Golf Club

Designed and built by Seve Ballesteros, the Oliva Nova Golf Club course is a par 72 links course of 6,350 m with a slope of 120, the main characteristic of which is that 15 of its 18 holes include water obstacles. The only holes that have no water obstacles are numbers 2, 13 and 14.

Seve said this about Oliva Nova Golf Club: “This course offers great possibilities to all golfers, as it has short, medium and long holes, and fairways with left and right doglegs. I think it poses a challenge to any golfer.” The amen corner of the course is at the 13th, 14th and 15th holes, where strategy and the wind are determining factors.

Alicante Golf

Severiano Ballesteros designed this fantastic 72-par course that includes six par-three holes, six par-four holes and six par-five holes, meaning that no two consecutive holes are played with the same par in any one round. This format makes play more varied and entertaining and gives golfers many more chances of scoring a birdie. Seve also designed 5 large lakes affecting 12 of the 18 holes, resulting in an attractive and challenging course for golfers of all abilities.

Alicante Golf is my favourite golf course on the Costa Blanca. The course is a good test for low handicappers like me, but also works for higher handicap players. I really like the way it winds it way through different housing developments, but be warned, you need a buggy because the distance between green and the next tee can be a few hundred yards. The par 3 15th is surrounded by apartments and it feels like you are playing in a stadium – your tee shot can get some applause from the residents!

Peraleja Golf Club

Peraleja Golf course was designed by Severiano Ballesteros, one of the greatest professional golfers ever.

Peraleja Golf course has 18 holes, is a total distance of 6250 meters and is a par 72, it is a gently undulating course with strategically placed bunkers and lakes, designed to challenge the players throughout the whole round, making the game a unique and enjoyable experience.

Seve Ballesteros – my golfing hero

When I was growing up Seve was my golfing hero. He was only seven years older than me, and when I first started to play golf. There was I hacking about on the school field with some clubs borrowed from my friends dad, while Seve was making his never to be forgotten debut at The British Open. When I was researching this article, I looked up the references to Seve Ballesteros on Wikipedia – just reading about him brought a tear to my eye!
